Trump: FBI Agents Were ‘Agitators,’ ‘Insurrectionists’ at Jan. 6 Riot

President Donald Trump reacted to the new report showing that the FBI deployed more than 250 agents in plainclothes to the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol protest.

“It was just revealed that the FBI had secretly placed, against all Rules, Regulations, Protocols, and Standards, 274 FBI Agents into the Crowd just prior to, and during, the January 6th Hoax,” Trump wrote Saturday on TruthSocial. “This is different from what Director Christopher Wray stated, over and over again! That’s right, as it now turns out, FBI Agents were at, and in, the January 6th Protest, probably acting as Agitators and Insurrectionists, but certainly not as ‘Law Enforcement Officials.’”

The document, reviewed by the House Judiciary Committee, revealed that more than 250 agents were deployed to the Capitol on Jan. 6 without proper safety equipment, clear instructions, or identifiable markings.

FBI staff said their deployment felt chaotic and politically compromised, according to feedback included in the report.

Several agents said they felt the bureau had become “infected” by partisan ideology. They criticized FBI leaders for treating the Jan. 6 rioters differently than protesters from the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests and riots.

“I want to know who each and every one of these so-called ‘Agents’ are, and what they were up to on that now ‘Historic’ Day,” Trump said. “Many Great American Patriots were made to pay a very big price only for the love of their Country.”

Trump placed blame on former FBI director Christopher Wray. Trump has said picking Wray to run the FBI was one of his worst personnel decisions in his first term.

“Christopher Wray, the then Director of the FBI, has some major explaining to do,” Trump said. “That’s two in a row, Comey and Wray, who got caught LYING, with our Great Country at stake. WE CAN NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN TO AMERICA AGAIN!”

The Justice Department Thursday charged former FBI Director James Comey with perjury and obstruction of Congress.
